Mental sharpness which is also known as mental acuity is the ability of the mind to work well. A person with mental sharpness has good memory, focus, concentration and understanding. So how can we develop or improve mental sharpness? The no 1 way is to associate with good people. People that bring out the best in others while seeing their ideas with new clarity and at the same time refining and shaping them into brilliant insights just as Scripture says “Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.” Good nutrition also has a role to play.
Healthy foods benefit our mind, nourishing our brain cells thereby aiding cognitive functioning which include recalling of information, learning and the way we perceive the world. Regular aerobic exercise (such as running/brisk walking) is also another important secret of making the brain to operate and function at a high level. For mental sharpness, we should aim for at least 15 minutes of physical activity every day or 30 minutes every other day. Reading, good sleep and relaxation are also imperative for mental acuity. The importance of reading is evident in Tony Buzan’s quote. Tony who is the author of the Speed Reading Book (read more, learn more, achieve more) once said, “Reading is to the mind as aerobic training is to the body.” Finally, we can ask for it from the Manufacturer of the mind!
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” ~ James 1:5
