Recently I shared an office with a colleague. One day she saw me coming into the office with a mug of tea and said, in a heavily accented English "I want to buy a flask so that I can bring coffee lait to the office because I don't like Nescafé". What! I thought to myself. She does not like Nescafé coffee? I love it.
Hearing her made such a simple statement made me think about how different and unique people are. We have different taste, preferences, likes and dislikes. What I love might be what you dislike and vice versa. Our uniqueness is part of the tapestry of life making us fit together like a perfect jigsaw.
A leader must appreciate the diversity of their team. Each person is authentic. They come with unique strengths that when harnessed builds a great team.
